Bloomin' Onion Bread

Mmmm. This bread was tasty! I served it last night with dinner and everyone loved it. I didn't have poppyseeds (I'm not really sure what that would add to it), but I don't think it needed them. I will definitely be making this again.

1 unsliced loaf (round is preferable) sourdough bread.
1/2 pound Monterey Jack cheese, thinly sliced
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup finely diced green onion, with tops
2-3 tsp poppy seeds

Directions:
Cut the bread lengthwise and widthwise - without cutting through the bottom crust. Place on a foil-lined baking sheet. Insert cheese between cuts. Combine butter, onion, and poppy seeds. Drizzle over bread. Wrap in foil; place on a baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Unwrap. Bake 10 more minutes, or until cheese is melted.

  1. from Lorena: Yummmmm! That looks like a really tasty and beautifully presented alternative to garlic bread. I will definitely be trying this. But I hate that I can't get monterey jack here. It's soooo good and I think is a fairly unique flavor of cheese.

  2. I just made this last night and it was SO good...minus, I didn't use monterey jack because I didn't have any, so I used swiss and some colby jack blend I had on hand...oh, and I added a little garlic to it, it was delish!

  3. I've made this for Isaac twice now. He loved it the first time and specifically asked for it again. This time though, I used fresh mozzarella (mostly because it was on sale and cheaper than the other stuff), and I used a garlic and herb loaf. It was delicious@
